Wall Maps - Desk Mat

Ferðakort has published a high-quality overall wall maps of Iceland in scale of 1:250 000 og 1:500 000. The maps are in a number of sizes and printed with special technique on foam or aluminium. The wall maps can be purchased in IÐNÚ Bookstore at Brautarholt 8. Ferðakort has also published a quality desk mat with 1:500 000 map of Iceland with contour shading. (67 x 43 cm).

 

 
New Road Atlas 1:500 000

June 2008

Ferðakort has published a new edition of the Road Atlas. The book contains a detailed travel map on a scale of 1:500 000 with contour shading and a place-name index with over 3000 entries. It also contains the latest information about Iceland’s road system, including road distances and numbers, as well as travel services such as service stations, accommodation, swimming pools, museums, golf courses, etc. There are special maps of several of Iceland's most popular tourist attractions, including Mývatn, Skaftafell, Landmannalaugar, Westman Islands and Þingvellir, and street maps of Reykjavík, Akureyri and Seyðisfjörður. Numerous theme maps contain practical information that often comes in very handy, for example protected areas,  historical sites map, municipalities in Iceland,  weather stations, vegetation and geology maps, Reception area for cell and NMT phones and FM radio stations, and viewing dials.

 

 
The Golden Circle and the Highland

Ferðakort has published a new special map, The Golden Circle on a scale of 1:200 000 and a new map in the category of section maps, the Highland of Iceland on a scale of 1:250 000.

The Golden Circle is quality map of the most popular tourist route in South Iceland, Gullfoss - Geysir - Þingvellir, with pictures and information of the highlights of the tour like the Blue lagoon. The map contains the latest information about Iceland's road system, including road distances and road numbers, as well as important travel-service information..

Hálendið is quality section map showing the Highland of Iceland. The map shows the glacier Vatnajökull and the highland to the north and west of it, all the way to Borgarfjörður, and part of Austfirðir. The map has contour lines and shading at 50 m intervals, and contains the latest information about Iceland's road system, including road distances and road numbers, as well as important travel-service information such as service stations, accommodation, swimming pools, museums, protected relics, golf courses, rest stops, viewing dials and boat trips.

 

 
Section Maps - updated

The three section maps of Iceland on a scale of 1:250 000,
1. Vestfirðir og Norðurland,
2. Vesturland og Suðurland and
3. Norðaustur- og Austurland has been updated with the latest information about Iceland's road system, including road distances and road numbers, as well as important travel-service information such as service stations, accommodation, swimming pools, museums, protected relics, golf courses, rest stops, viewing dials and boat trips.

 

 
New maps from Ferdakort

June 2007
Ferðakort has reissued several of the most popular maps that had previously been published by the National Land Survey of Iceland. These maps have been given a facelift with new covers in a plastic pocket, and the company logo.

The three Touring Maps on a scale of 1:250 000 cover the entire country with considerable overlapping. They are conveniently folded for on-the-road use. The ever-popular Overall Map of Iceland on a scale of 1:500 000, has been re-released, as has the Þórsmörk-Landmannalaugar Special Map and the Activity Map of Southwest Iceland.

A new printing of the Road Atlas on a scale of 1:200 000 has been published with a spiral binding for easy handling when travelling. The Road Atlas is the most precise roadmap published today.

These maps are available at most bookstores and at sales outlets for maps around the country. Ferðakort operates a specialised Map Shop at its Iðnú Bookstore at Brautarholt 8, Reykjavík. 

 

 
New website for Ferdakort

June 2007
Ferðakort has opened a new website where information about its products, services, upcoming publications and general operations is available, and where customers can contact the company to place orders.

The University Internet Bookstore has been contracted to handle orders for Ferðakort made through the Net. A link will soon connect customers to the Internet Bookstore where Ferðakort’s main products can be purchased. The website will be in Icelandic and English. 

 

 
Map Shop at Brautarholt 8

Iðnú Bookstore at Brautarholt 8 has opened a sales department for Ferðakort maps, where all the company’s map books can be purchased, as well as maps that are available either folded or flat. Eymundsson Bookstore, which has operated a special map department at its store in the Kringlan Mall, will continue to offer Ferðakort’s popular map products.

Iðnú Bookstore is open weekdays from 9-17 except Fridays when it closes at 16.

 
Ferðakort – new name in maps

February 2007
Iðnmennt ses. has registered a new trademark, Ferðakort, to publish and market new maps that the company will release, and to preserve map publications and map CDs previously published by the National Land Survey of Iceland.

The company is located at Brautarholt 8 in Reykjavík, and is operated in conjunction with Iðnmennt’s other operations at the same location. A new logo has been designed that will be printed on new map releases.

This summer the company has scheduled the publication of the following maps and map books: Road Atlas 1:200 000, Road Atlas 1:500 000, Touring Map 1:500 000, three Touring Maps 1:250 000, and an Activity Map of Southwest Iceland 1:75 000. 

 

 
Iðnmennt buys National Land Survey’s map publishing division

Iðnmennt ses. had the highest bid for the National Land Survey of Iceland’s map publishing division. The sale has already been finalised.

Products included in the sale are the popular Touring Maps and Road Atlases. These products, which have been unavailable, will be republished in the spring and include the following: Road Atlas 1:200 000, Touring Maps 1:250 000, Touring Map 1:500 000 and Road Atlas 1:500 000. Iðnmennt has also purchased the Survey’s stock of older maps.

A new law regarding the National Land Survey of Iceland and cartography went into effect on 1 January 2007, which states that the Survey shall no longer sell printed maps. The Survey, therefore, has stopped producing, publishing and selling touring maps, which for decades had been a major part of its operations.
